Day Two: What did I do?

No, I’m not regretting my decision to retire. I’m writing this entry in response to reactions from some of my former co-workers who could not seem to imagine not going into work every day. Where I used to work, there were quite a few folks who were chronologically beyond what society might consider ‘retirement age.’ We were engineers in a fairly narrow niche. As such, we dealt with data and scenarios in environments that could be quite specialized and challenging. For nerds like us, that translated into rather intellectually stimulating work. Perhaps that’s why there were so many who chose to continue working even though they qualified for retirement. Perhaps they couldn’t imagine what they might do with their time without a 40-60 hour work week to keep them busy. As for me? No problem.

Just to give you and idea of what my days are like, thus far;

Yesterday, I fed the animals (2 dogs, 2 cats), cooked breakfast for my husband, Mel, Mel with our grandson, Christian and delivered it to him. (He is a Vietnam Veteran who has been confined to either a hospital bed or wheelchair since December 2019) Then I took Buddy, , to the vet for bloodwork, ran errands to five other places and returned home to finish laundry, prepare dinner, clean, and begin to sort through the 25 years worth of stuff I brought home from my office. After cooking dinner, feeding Mel, and then feeding the dogs again, I sat down to work on my entrepreneurial training class, complete some of my homework, and get this blog up and running. Oh, and I ate something in there, somewhere. I finally took a break at around 10 pm to wind down before going to bed. No boredom, here.

There are just so many things I want to learn how to do and then implement them so I can help other people, it’s mind boggling! But, hey, Boggle, , is one of my favorite games so, there’s that.

Today was a repeat of most of those tasks, but subtract the trip to the vet and add a trip to the grocery store with my trusty side-kick, Lucy, . So, you see, I’m not bored, nor am I sitting around eating bon-bons and scrolling mindlessly through social media or YouTube. There is much to do and much to learn and I plan on making the most of the time I have. Now, I just get to do it without risking my life on I-66 and punching a clock! {insert happy dance}

In future posts, I’ll share more about my training and why I’m shifting to an entrepreneurial model for earning money. If you have questions or comments, bring ’em on!
